MENTAL HEALTH FACILITATOR
Lara Waldenmaier has been a Mental Health Facilitator for The Chrysalis Adventure since April 2016.
Horses made such an impact on Lara in her childhood that from the ages of 8 to 14 she fully intended to go to veterinary school at OSU to become a horse vet. Then when a friend in crisis was helped by their middle school counselor, Lara decided that she wanted to learn to help people too. She knew then that she needed to pursue her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (University of Evansville, 1999) and to go on for a counseling degree (Master of Arts in Clinical Pastoral Counseling, Ashland Theological Seminary, 2004).
Lara learned about equine-assisted therapy while studying for her Masters and was thrilled to know that her love of horses and passion for helping people through counseling could be combined. Since graduating and becoming an Ohio-licensed counselor in 2004, she has lived, volunteered and worked in many different environments in Ohio, in Oxford, UK and North Carolina.
After living away for 10 years, Lara is grateful to have returned to her hometown in northeast Ohio and to have the wonderful opportunity to work with TCA. She also works part-time at Anchor Counseling Services LLC, a private counseling practice in Mentor and as an Intake Counselor at Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine in Willoughby.
Throughout her professional life, Lara has served and counseled individuals and groups from many different populations including students, visiting internationals and expats, couples (from the blissfully engaged to those in troubled and abusive relationships), job seekers, adults with addiction and mental health struggles, the care-dependent elderly, the rehabbing and people seeking support and direction for life’s transitions, daily struggles and spiritual questions.
In her free time Lara enjoys running, singing, dancing, cultural events, travel and spending time with family and friends.
